UJA-Federation of New York​ and its network of not for profit organizations have supported me and my family in the times of utmost need. HIAS brought us to America where we found refuge and an opportunity for a better life. The Marks JCH​, or the J, embraced us as a community and provided a safe and nurturing environment where I could thrive. The New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) fought with us to bring my sister to the United States when she was stranded in an orphanage in Ukraine. The Hebrew Free Loan Society helped me pay for my college and graduate education to achieve the American dream. All of this was made possible by many passionate and caring professionals and donors who never asked for anything in return. Every year UJA helps hundreds of thousands of people, like my family, in New York and around the world.

When I was younger, I loved going to the Y. It was a great place to relax, and I enjoyed meeting many new friends that I would consider my best friends today. My mother works here in the early childhood departments, so I have deep roots at the Y. My entire family belongs to the Y and I can see myself belonging to one my entire life. I am so grateful for all the memories I have made either everyone here at the MIYJCC.

Although I am more spiritually Jewish than I am in following the rituals and such, I absolutely love the candle lighting. My husband is not Jewish but for our first anniversary he bought me a menorah. I had to call my cousin who is a Rabbi to remember the prayers, but now we try to light it as often as possible. He also made us a Star of David out of wood that we could hang in our house to remind me of my Jewish background.

Jewish culture has always been a huge apart of my family. My children's great grandfather was a rabbi and actually founded Temple Chaverim in Plainview. My Aunt attended the Y as a child, my children go here for after school daycare, camp, and many extra curricular activities. I met some of my best friends here. It's not only a great place for children, it is great for moms like me and is a such a fun way to meet new people who can become as close as family to you.

My daughter, Amy was the first entry class at the nursery school. My husband went to the MIYJCC everyday until he couldn't anymore, he went to the gym all the time with his buddies. I took cooking classes here. My husband and I loved the MIYJCC, our daughter went to camp here and she loves it. Overall, we have had countless memories at the MIYJCC, and are thankful for everyone and everything.
